More than ever, students are dependent on technology. Here’s how it’s evolving their education.
With its infographic A Look at the Modern College Student, Edudemic.com has collected data showing just how much technology has changed the academic experience for today’s students. That includes:
- Note taking – 70% of students use keyboards to take notes instead of paper notebooks
- Attendance – 12 million students currently take at least one class online; that figure is expected to jump to 22 million in five years
- Attention spans – 73% of students said they can’t study without technology, and 38% said they can’t go 10 minutes without chcecking their email, tablet, laptop or smartphone
- Spending – Digital textbooks cost 40% less than printed counterparts; that’s good news, since 98% of students who own an e-reader read e-textbooks, and
- Communication – 91% of students used email to communicate with professors; Skype and other video chat tools create virtual study groups for classmates.
